Flight Number: SQ641
Aircraft: B787-10
Osaka Kansai - Singapore Changi

Ticket Purchase / Redemption

I paid 156,000 KrisFlyer miles + JPY 12,300 for the redemption booking on Singapore Airlines. Yes - as long as your little ones are above 2 years old, you have to pay the FULL FARE. As such, I only book Saver tickets.

This redemption was made in July 2024 (9 months before the actual flight). Little A's ticket cost SGD246, which had to be booked separately by calling SQ hotline.

There are three flights out from Osaka and I chose the late afternoon flight as the other two weren't so kid-friendly. One flight would have reached at an ungodly time while the other required us to get up pretty early and rush to the airport.

All flight options are on the B787-10 aircraft which meant the 2018RJ business seat type, which is also my favourite among the 5 types that Singapore Airlines carry.
Check In

Check-ins at Osaka Kansai International Airport for Singapore Airlines are at Row D in either at Terminal 1.

When we arrived, the economy check-in line was moving slowly, but fortunately, there was no line at the business check-in counters. After checking in, we received Fast Lane Tickets. These tickets allow access to a special line at the security screening counters and are collected by the officer when you enter the gate. Unfortunately, this benefit does not extend to the immigration counters.

Lounge

After passing through immigration, you have to walk pass the duty free shopping area to get to the gates and lounges. If you are keen on shopping, you can place your orders via the self-serve kiosks, make payment and pick up just before you head to the gate. Pretty systematic and efficient! We did exactly that and headed to the lounge while waiting for our loots to be packed and ready for collection.

At Kansai International Airport, there are numerous lounges available, with the airline lounges on level three situated just beyond the duty-free zone in between gates 20 and 21. The two airline lounges in this area are the KIX Lounge Premium and KIX Lounge Kansai. The KIX Lounge Premium primarily caters to first-class passengers, while the KIX Lounge Kansai serves business class passengers across various airlines. Both lounges underwent renovations and reopened in March 2025.

The lounge is split into two sections, the north and south. The north section is much bigger than the south while the south has more of a chill vibe.

North side of the lounge

The south side also has work desks and single pods for solo travellers looking to have some quiet time.

South side of the lounge

Although both sides of the lounge offer identical food buffet selections, the north side includes a DIY cup noodles section in partnership with Nissin! In Japan, no lounge experience is truly complete without enjoying a draft beer from the machines as well. One thing to note is that the buffet selection is pretty limited considering such a large lounge.

Seats

All flights on the SIN - KIX route are on Boeing 787-10 aircrafts, which mean the 2018RJ seats!

The seats are in a 1-2-1 configuration. Take note that the middle "D" and "F" seats alternate in each row from a "couple" to "single" seat. I like this configuration because the divider in the middle can be lowered and it doesn't cause a backache having to tend to your little one in the next seat.

Flight Experience

Bassinet Call Out: The only infant seats are in seats 11A and 11K with the bassinet diagonally across you. We were seated on 11A, 11D & 11F as it easier for the parent sitting on 11A to move across the aisle with access to both 11D & 11F seats. Little A can chill with either parent on 11A or 11F.

Food wise there is no Book the Cook option on this route. There were 3 options - a local dish Chicken Rice, a western dish Baked Fish & the Japanese Hanakoireki that is unique to Japan outbound flights.

We had all three options, and my favorite was likely the Chicken Rice. An infant meal was also provided. The Hanakoireki...was something I wasn't used to.

The flight attendant gave us 4 of the new Le Labo amenity kits (although i prefer the previous one), children headsets and SQ bears to Little D and Little A.

Summing Up

I always appreciate the business class experience on SQ because of the crew's attentiveness to passengers with young children. I was somewhat disappointed that Osaka didn't have a SilverKris lounge, and instead, the business class lounge was a shared one for all airlines. Without the Book the Cook options, the food onboard was still decent, and I would probably rate it a 7.5/10.
